Resolution 2005-03

CONCERNING HONORING MR. CRAIG KISER FOR EXEMPLARY LEADERSHIP

WHEREAS
the Florida Division of Blind Services, under the direction of Mr. Craig Kiser, has taken bold steps to make major changes to bring increased equality, opportunity and security to blind Floridians;  and

WHEREAS
the Director of Blind Services has worked collaboratively with key staff to oversee the critical remodeling of the State's Rehabilitation Center for the Blind making it
free from hazardous environmental materials and far more aesthetically comfortable for staff and students alike;  and

WHEREAS
the Director of Blind Services has appointed and directed staff at the State Center to re-organize and re-name that State facility the Orientation and Adjustment Center thereby making the title more reflective of the center's
mission and more responsive to the individual needs of blind consumers;  and

WHEREAS
The Director of the Division of Blind Services has strongly supported NFB- NEWSLINE and the Braille and Talking Book Library; and

WHEREAS
the Director of Blind Services has boldly taken necessary measures to re-organize the Division within the state office to be more responsive to the
needs and concerns of blind consumers having created new positions within the agency to protect client rights;  and

WHEREAS
the Director of Blind Services has worked to re-organize the Division Offices and Counselors to be more responsive to the blind and to promote a much improved organizational structure; and

WHEREAS
the Director of Blind Services has hired qualified, competent blind employees in leadership positions thus bringing a new level of sensitivity to the overall operation of Blind Services; and

WHEREAS
the Director of Blind Services encourages input and feedback from the organized blind, both state and national, with regard to innovative changes to better serve the blind of Florida and to provide critical legislative support:
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED
that the National Federation of the Blind of Florida in convention assembled this 29th day of May, 2005, in the City of Boca Raton, voice our respect and appreciation to Mr. Craig Kiser, Director of the Florida Division of Blind Services, for his extraordinary leadership and vision;  and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED
that the Florida Affiliate endorses, approves and supports the many positive initiatives Craig Kaiser's leadership has brought to the blind of Florida through the state agency by the effective changes he has spearheaded to negate an
outmoded and, sometimes, harmful system into a positive force in the lives of blind Floridians of all ages.
