Reports from divisions, committees, and chapters
Denise: Willie Lucas resigned as president of the Miami/Dade Chapter and Fred Haynes is the new president.
Paul: The Statewide chapter recruited 17 new members. FABS has 20 new members and raised about $1000 during the convention.
Miranda: Tampa chapter will hold elections next month.
Sylvia: Tallahassee is hosting a Quarter Auction this month and proposing a raffle in May. Also trying to recruit new members.
Jorge: Shingle Creek Raffle tickets have been disbursed. Now looking for a fundraiser for the national convention. KNFB reader license raffle maybe announced during the national.
Tekesha: Palm Beach will hold elections in February.
Positives: Most agreed that we worked well together and more positive energy at the convention. We had good unity and other chapters pitched in to help out the hosting chapter. Tampa chapter did a great job. Board worked very hard. We had a large number of door prizes. Offering free breakfasts was a great idea.
Negatives: We needed more description of auction items and acknowledgement of persons bidding. We need solid cut offs for registration. We need other people and chapters volunteering to assist the host chapter. Get the agenda out sooner. People had a hard time reading the braille agenda and it was not up to code. Have a braille reader proof the agendas. We would like more time to socialize during the day.
Washington seminar debrief: Despite some of the offices being closed due to bad weather. The teams were able to make several drop-ins appointments. 2 teams were able to make it – South Florida had 6 appointments and Central/North Florida had 4/5 appointments. The senators’ reception was canceled. All spoke well and did a great job. It was very organized.
Liaisons were established to create a connection between the state board and the chapter presidents for any concerns they may have. To act as a point of contact with the board. Liaisons as follows: Denise for Broward and Miami; Paul for State Wide, Daytona & Central Florida; Rafael for Gainesville & FABS; Sylvia for Jacksonville & Tallahassee; Tekesha for Palm Beach; Gloria for Pinellas & Polk; Jorge for Space Coast, Treasure Coast & Fundraising committee; Lauren for Suncoast & FLAGDU; Miranda for Tampa & Deaf Blind. Of note: Holly is trying to get parents committee reorganized.
Board meeting dates for 2016: Meetings are held the 4th Sunday evening of each month. We decided to work on board meeting dates next meeting, as Easter is March 27th. Our next meeting will be February 28th.
Many expressed appreciation and welcomed the new board members.
Miranda motioned that the meeting be adjourned, 2nd by Gloria. All approved. Meeting adjourned at 9:30 pm
